White Lion--When the Children Cry

As I was sitting around, done with my minimal chatting with Trae Sorenson, Brian Charlesworth, and his wife Kara, waiting for President Donald L Showalter III to show up (it was a surprise reunion for him, the rest of us already knew. And if you don't know what I'm talking about. check the Avenged Sevenfold post--and tell me that's not the coolest name ever) It suddenly came to me what song I should listen to on the way back. This one, obviously :)

This song has gotten 27 plays at the moment, bound to be more. I've decided to learn it on guitar, and found it to be surprisingly easier than expected (I suspect the tab I located may be oversimplified), even down to the harmonic notes. Anyway, White Lion was introduced to me while I was still in high school, though even now I consider myself to be new to their music. AMG considers them to be one of the more talented hair metal bands of the 80's. They may be right; I enjoy this song and a few others of theirs. In any case, Austin Dombrosky introduced them to me as a Styx sound-alike group. Whatever. Don't believe him; they sound nothing like Styx (Styx is one of a few band's I currently have issues with, along with Queen, and possibly others that don't come to mind. Styx has a good one disc compilation I enjoy, but the two disc of my brother's kinda messes them up for me. Queen just seems incapable of even a good one disc compilation--the two I have are half good, half trash, and I've never bothered to create a Queen playlist of what I want to hear). They're a good band however, if your tastes run to 80's hair metal, as mine do (AMG describes 80's hair metal bands as crawling out of hair salon's). The lyrics probably deserve time to:

Verse 1
Little child, dry your cryin' eyes
How can I explain, the fear you feel inside
Cuz you were born, into this evil world
Where man is killing man
And no one know's just why
What have we begun
Just look what we have done
All that we destroyed, you must build again

Chorus 1
When the children cry, let them know we tried
Cuz when the children sing, then the new world begins

Verse 2
Little child, you must show the way
to a better day, for all the young
cuz you were born, for the world to see
that we all can live, with life and peace
No more president's, and all the wars will end
One united world, under God

Chorus 1
When the children cry, let them know we tried
Cuz when the children sing, the new world begins

Verse 3
What have we begun
Just look what we have done
All that we destroyed,
You must build again
No more president's
And all the wars will end
One united world, under God

Chorus 2
When the children cry, let them know we tried
Cuz when the children fight, let them know it ain't right
When the children pray, let them know the way
Cuz when the children sing, then the new world begins

Musically, I love the guitar part (I already said I'm starting to learn it), and I love the tasteful harmonies (More and more I discover that's what I most enjoy about songs). Also, it usually takes me sitting down and typing the lyrics like this for me to even realize what these singers are saying half the time. Good thing I put the time and effort into it, huh? Good night world, I've been up way too late. Good night Neverland too, while we're at it.
